We get hands-on with the new ROCKBOX RAW from speaker newcomers Fresh n Rebel…
Well, what can I say about the ROCKBOX RAW? Firstly, it certainly is rock-like in its build quality. Holding it in my hands, it feels quite weighty – sturdy even. To me it looks like it came straight out of a Dr.Who set. Standing a mighty 27cm tall (or 27cm wide, depending on your positioning preferences), in my opinion looks quite stylish. The main feature of this device is its ability to connect to one of your Bluetooth devices and allow you to play music. It also features an in-built microphone, so if your Bluetooth device happens to be a ’phone, you can then use it as a handsfree device. Other external devices can be played back through the ROCKBOX RAW, using a 3.5mm jack – effectively letting you connect it to any device with a headphone output.
The ROCKBOX offers 10 hours of battery life on a single charge, meaning almost a whole (work) day of fun can be had. It will then take approx. 2.5 hours to charge it back up again, but can even be charged from laptop or computer. It has 5W of power per channel with a built in woofer, to add a little extra bass. From what I’ve heard, the sound is pretty impressive from a unit of this size. It handles all types of music with ease, and powers through rock just as easily as classical and pop. We probably wouldn’t recommend this speaker if you’re interested in room-filling bass, but it still is a pleasure to listen to. Pop in to one of our stores for a demo of the new ROCKBOX RAW.
