LG’s new TV range for 2015

LG TVs have always been very popular in our stores, with their introduction to 4K and currently being the only people mass producing the fantastic OLED tech. We’re sure 2015 will be another bonanza year for the Korean tech giants, so lets jump right in and see what their new range has to offer…

LF580V – Sizes available: 32″, 42″, 55″

The entry level to this year’s Smart TV range is in my opinion, one of the best of the entry level TVs that you can get your hands on. It’s equipped with an IPS panel (as all LG’s are), which gives you not only a better wide angle viewing position but allows more light perforate through it for better brightness. It’s also less reflective than most comparative models so if you have a bright room you can still enjoy very good contrast levels. The 100hz motion processing keeps things fluid and even looks better than the previous year’s model with the same figure.

It comes equipped with the updated webOS 2.0, which seems to be the fastest operating system on any smart TV we’ve tried so far this year, it’s super responsive with a really user-friendly interface too.

The only slight downside to this TV is that the stands for it are quite widely separated so a large surface or table top is required, but you can wall mount the TV to avoid this problem altogether. Despite it’s impressive sound quality (especially for an entry level model), we’d still recommend pairing it with a good sound boost. We tested it with the SRT1000 soundbase from Yamaha, which complimented it well.

Enjoy a smoother motion with the 55LF630V.

LF630V – Sizes Available: 43″, 49″, 55″

Once you move into the 6 series range from LG there’s a large jump up in terms of the motion capabilities you’ll receive. They offer higher PQI (picture quality index) ratings with a better IPS panel is fitted, which gives you a much better sense of realism and natural motion that’s great for watching live sports and fast paced action. Again the TV is equipped with LG’s latest Smart system, so you can take advantage of a huge range of apps for web-browsing, catch-up TV and video streaming.

It may sound all too similar to the LF580V but you’ll be rewarded with a big jump in black precision, a lot less colour bleed from the faster images and of course bigger sizes available – if you’re a movie lover or a gamer especially it’s definitely worth an audition. For real serious cinephiles, next up is the fabulous 4K Ultra HD range, kicking off with the UF770.

UF770- Sizes Available: 40”, 43”, 49”, 55”, 65”

This 4K TV is a real thing of beauty. Starting at 40″ and rising all the way up to a whopping 65″, it features a lot of tech that’s more accustomed to the higher spec models from last year. produce an extremely sharp picture when watching true 4K imagery and video signals or indeed even from a 1080p (or Full HD) picture. The colours are vivid yet not overly processed, clean but not out of focus, blacks are deep and the motion handling is extremely good. You also get the new “One Remote” Smart remote to operate your TV with meaning that there is no need to have one smart remote and then a normal TV remote to navigate your way through the Smart features. With access to the 4K streaming services (Netflix & Amazon Prime) this TV is in its element when showing a true UHD image. Experiencing House of Cards is a truly impressive spectacle whilst also being, in my opinion, a fantastic series for adults to get their teeth into.

UF950- Sizes Available: 55”, 65”

This is the pinnacle and flagship model for LG’s LED range for 2015. Equipped with the brand new Quantum Dot technology you will get a realistic pallet that offers a 64x better colour reproduction than other UHD TVs on the market. The picture quality is outstanding and will make any 4K material, Blu-ray or even a DVD look extremely vibrant and sharp. Flesh tones are more precise and the reds and oranges in explosions look far more accurate. It comes equipped with the highest level of backlight dimming available to give the deepest blacks without any noticeable bleed if contrasted next to a very white image.

Build quality is also at the height of this TV’s offering with a lovely tiny silver bezel round the outer edge of the TV and a sturdy back to the TV that echoes the days of early OLED screens (but far less flimsy!). You would need to look very hard to find something that may outshine this incredible machine and certainly, again in my opinion, one of the best screens that you are likely to see this year.

There are multiple HDMI connections but don’t forget you’ll want a high-speed connection to get the most out of those 4K images. However if a cable is too retro then you do have the screen casting options for some of the integrated apps at your disposal.

A truly epic picture is supported by some impressive speakers built in too. Designed in collaboration with Harmon Kardon, they are impressively powered at 60W which is more than most TVs can dream of and give the effect of 4.2 (yes that’s right, twin subwoofers!) – but again you can always pair it with a top end soundbar or home cinema system for greater depth and clarity.

Hopefully you’ve found this brief round-up useful and even inspiring. There’re even more great models too, including three OLED screens that demand a preview if you want to see colours really come alive. One is a full HD model which we have covered previously, the entry 4K OLED, which you can read about here.
