Product review: Humax FVP4000T Freeview Play PVR

02

Humax are back, and this time the digital set-top box manufacturer have a whole new product set for launch: the UK’s first ever Freeview Play box…

With the launch of the FVP400T, Humax are the first brand in the country to offer the new service on such a device, meaning as well as being able to record Freeview stations, it will also allow viewers to ‘catch-up’ with the last seven days of content. BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and All 4 are currently available, with Demand 5 set to be added via a software update in the near future. Netflix is also likely to be added by 2016, after a deal was recently struck between the online film network and Humax.

Aside from the Freeview Play capability, the FVP400T is an entirely new machine rather than an update of Humax’ previous HD recorders. It has a fresh new design giving a more modern look. Available in two colour choices (Mocha and Cappucino) and in either 500GB or 1TB HDD sizes, Humax has tried to offer as much flexibility as possible.

Three Freeview HD tuners are built in, allowing users to record four programs and watch another at the same time, and the above-mentioned Freeview Play is also built into the EPG, meaning seamless integration with the both live and on-demand content.

Humax have also added the ability to remotely set recordings by downloading their iOS and Android compatible app. With the catch-up services currently only stretching to the four main terrestrial broadcasters, this is a huge plus for anyone who forgets to set up a recording for one of the other commercial stations. Simply load up the app, select the programme and away you go. Genius!

The Humax FVP400T is now available for demonstration or purchase in Richer Sounds stores. Call or pop into your local branch for a demonstration today!
