Top games for November

We finally made it! It’s finally “big game season”, where the prize-winning stags of the gaming world wander into the riflescopes of avid gamers, and get hunted down so quickly that if you don’t pick up a day-one release you may be missing out. Confusing metaphors aside, let’s look at all the games you need to play this month…

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Out November 4th on PS4, Xbox One and PC

I mean, do I really need to say anything about the long running COD franchise? The great “divider of gamers” has equal levels of hate and love garnered towards it. Whether it’s a good game or a terrible game, one thing can be said for certain, and that’s the fact that it’s a hell of a lot of fun. I’m looking for some frantic multiplayer gameplay that gets my brain racing… with spaceships. I’m not a fan of the extra money you have to pay to get the original modern warfare, as it’s not available separately. But having said that, I’m probably going to pay whatever to get the premium edition!

Watch Dogs 2
Out November 15th on PS4 and Xbox One

I hated the original Watchdogs. I’m not saying that to sound cool, its mix of open world and hacking sounded great, but it was a dull, overly serious slog that was no fun to play. It seems I wasn’t the only one that thought that as Watchdogs 2 looks like an 80’s hacker movie set in the modern day, with a protagonist who looks like he’s having fun. I don’t want to get disappointed again, but so far I’m pretty excited…. especially when I can electrocute Hells Angels with a RC car, while distracting them with a drone! (The below trailer is rated PEGI 18)

Pokémon Sun/Moon
Out November 18th on Nintendo 3DS

I’ll be honest, without Pokémon Go reminding me about how much I loved the old games then I would never have placed my pre-order for this year’s new releases in the long running franchise. Now that Pokémon Go is all but dead in my mind, I’m excited to explore the Alola region of the new games. And from what I’ve seen (and played) so far these iterations of the game look to grow the series by focusing more heavily on the RPG elements and greatly improving the graphic fidelity, which could lead to this being the greatest Pokémon game to date. Final Fantasy XV
Out November 29th on PS4 and Xbox One

I’m not entirely sure how many times this game has been pushed back since its original conception, back in the way back when, but as of right now I’m pretty luke-warm in anticipation for the most recent addition to my favourite of all videogame series’. This will of course change a few days before its released, as I start watching the trailers of the frenetic action mixed with the open-world-yet-heavy-story-based-progression, and shortly after lose my mind obsessing over how this will be the game that overtakes Final Fantasy 7 as all time greats.

Dishonoured 2
Out November 11th on PS4, Xbox One and PC

The original Dishonoured was an interesting romp, balancing on the tightrope of morality – asking you to make the choice about how to go about attaining your goal; giving you options of either savage violence and super stealth and then giving you rewards or punishments for the play-style you choose. The second in the series takes that idea and runs with it, while letting you play as either Corvo or Emily and reworking the chaos system. This will also make the difficulty harder and more challenging. The first game was a classic and this sequel looks to take the style and make it greater.

Honourable Mention
(or, other exciting gaming related news to tie you over, until December is frosting up our windows once more.)

ps4proPS4 Pro – November 10th

It’s a PS4… but this time it has an improved GPU (ie. graphics) and the ability to output 4K and HDR. I won’t go into the more in depth specs but with a TV capable of HDR, you’re going to see a pretty decent improvement with certain games. Nintendo Classic Mini – November 11th

It’s a tiny NES that comes with 30 in-built games, and will probably become the big Christmas gift for 2016! Also, you can connect it up to new TVs, because it has HDMI output – making it easier to set-up with new equipment. Obviously not as oldschool as an original model connected to a CRT… but a nice collector’s item that looks pretty cute.

So that is the month of November condensed into a few paragraphs of interesting words. If I’ve missed a classic-in-the making, or something else game-related you’d like to give us all a shout out for, then please voice your opinions in the comment section below.
