The awards show made its debut in 1977, when a small band called The Beatles cleaned up; winning Best British Album, Best British Group & Best British Producer (George Martin). Those with a very keen memory will also know a certain singer-songwriter by the name of Cliff Richard won Best British Male – having already released 17 studio albums by this date.
