June is always a solid month for releases and this year is no exception, with a selection of new releases and anticipated sequels coming thick and fast. Here, in this blog, I go into detail about which ones you should be watching.
Tekken 7 – June 2nd PS4, Xbox One and PC
After being available for almost a year in arcades in Japan, Tekken 7 finally arrives on consoles around the world and looks to finalize the ongoing story of the Mishima clan. Keeping the same fluid combo driven combat of previous iterations but adding new mechanisms known as ‘Rage Art’ and ‘Power Crush’ and adding an in depth story mode along with new characters. Tekken 7 so far looks like it could be the new ‘King of Iron Fist’.
Dirt 4 – June 9th PS4, Xbox One and PC
Dirt Rally took the Dirt series back to its roots and gave us one of the greatest rally simulation games in recent memory. Dirt 4 looks to continue that trend by being full of realism and excitement whilst adding procedurally generated tracks in certain modes and boosting your ability to manage your own career with dynamic team management scenarios.
Arms – June 16th Nintendo Switch
A brand new game for a brand new system…well almost brand new. Arms takes the idea of your traditional boxing games and stretches them out by adding giant extendable arms and a host of over the top characters to control said appendages. Add on the fact that you can play with up to four players and you don’t have to use motion controls to play and Arms looks like it could be a real knockout.
Ever Oasis – June 23rd Nintendo 3DS
Honestly until a few days ago I’d never heard of this game, but once I’d watched the most recent trailer I knew I’d need to look into it more. Coming from director Koichi Ishii (Final Fantasy 1/2/3, Secret of Mana etc.) it looks to be a throwback to classic JRPGS with all the Dungeon crawling and material foraging you could ever want.
Honourable Mentions
Remakes of old games should never be considered for anticipation. Unless it’s these two stalwarts of PlayStation greatness, which very much garner anticipation.
Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy – June 30th PS4
The first three Crash Bandicoot games, in my opinion, are some of the greatest platform video games in existence! For that reason I’m over the moon that we get to again lace up the oversized sneakers of my favourite marsupial and go chasing wumpa fruit with a nice shiny HD update and even 4K if you own a PS4 Pro.
Wipeout Omega Trilogy – June 6th PS4
Wipeout takes the idea of speed and cranks it to 11 for a white knuckle thrill ride of anti-gravity insanity! Including all tracks and ships from Wipeout HD, Fury and 2048 all tweaked for HD and Even 4K for the PS4 Pro. I’m excited to play a new Wipeout game on PS4 and remember my blurry tracked childhood.
Of course there are more games for you to play this month and if you feel like I’ve missed any then don’t hesitate to let your opinions be known via the majesty of the Internet.
