Product Review: Sennheiser CX5.00i In Ear Headphones

Sennheiser have for a long time been one of the top brands in the headphone world, renowned for great sound and great design. Today we will be looking at the CX5.00i to see if they can live up to the name of the brand whilst sticking to a budget price.

Straight out of the box the CX5.00i improve greatly over the older CX300 going for a more enhanced look giving the impression of a higher quality and hardier headphone, the mix of silver and black taking the look to the next level over your standard black affair. As well as the design being improved there is also an improvement to the rigidity of the cable itself giving it a more robust feel and hopefully alleviating the issue of breaking cable that comes with most affordable headphones, they’re also of the tangle free variety which is a must have if you’re on the move with your music.

“If you want a real sound upgrade but don’t have a huge budget, the Sennheiser CX 5.00is are now among the best in-ears you can buy.” ‘What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine’. 5-star review. Tested at £50.

Of course, the headphones come with a variety of different fitting tips in the box and an in-line mic and iOS controls built into the cable itself.

Sound wise the Sennheisers are one of the best in the under £100 category giving you a sound that is both a mix of deep and full bass values whilst at the same time being clear and concise giving you a full range of the audio spectrum and allowing you the opportunity to listen to all your favourite tracks without having to spend a fortune.  After listening to both Motorhead and Carpenter Brut I was more than impressed with the headphones being able to cope with whatever genres all the way from heavy metal to electro. As well as this the sound stage that the headphones can produce gives them a much bigger presence than you are normally allowed meaning they sound much bigger than they actually are.

Design and sound are super important with headphones but one other aspect that can’t be overlooked is how the headphones feel and what level of comfort you can get from them. I am happy to report that the comfort level is high with the supplied rubber tips really fitting well in the ear and giving a fantastic closed environment to the outside world. The weight is also very low so you never feel bogged down by heavy in ear buds.

In my opinion, if you’re looking for a headphone for under £100 then you would be hard-pressed to find a set that delivers as much as the Sennheiser CX5.00i. With that said there’s always another set of headphones to look at so don’t be afraid to pop into your local store and see what’s on offer.
