Childhood is a great time. Climbing trees and grazing knees, hiding inside on rainy days, being captivated by a new Disney movie. It’s also a great time to let your imagination blossom…
Take me, for example. At the age of ten I had a best friend called Jeff. He was about my age, had a peg leg, a patch over one eye and a side-kick parrot. Jeff was a pirate. He was also very much make believe. We had lots of fun, however as we lived miles from the sea… Jeff wasn’t very useful as a pirate.
Even though we went on adventures, Jeff wasn’t always the most reliable; we would always get told off for losing my phone; I would ruin my news shoes when he got us caught in the rain; I would constantly be losing my cassette tapes when he moved them. Jeff stuck around for a while too; later he would always burn the dinner and would always lose the number for the pizza take-away, and he would always want to hear the same boring old music. Come to think about it, he wasn’t very useful as a friend either.
Thankfully things are about to change. No longer do I have to listen to my imaginary friend’s terrible singing voice and poor taste in music.
I’ve just been introduced to Alexa. My new best friend.
Probably the most exciting element to Sonos’ hot new One speaker, the interactive voice-controlled feature named Amazon Alexa would’ve got me out of many scrapes in my younger years. I can now easily ask Alexa where my phone is, and she’ll make it ring for me. Asking Alexa for a quick weather update before heading out to build my treehouse would have certainly saved me from getting washed away. Asking Alexa to start my custom-built playlist of all my favourite tracks means I can do away with my collection of ridiculously out-of-date cassette tapes.
Similarly, saying “Alexa, set a timer for 20 minutes,” would help me avoid burning my dinner to a carbon finish. And even if I did, I could just ask Alexa to order me my favourite double pepperoni stuffed crust with extra chilies. Simple does it. And by asking Alexa to dim the lights and play Barry White’s Greatest Hits, I can set the mood to enjoy my double pepperoni all by myself.
What’s more, one Jeff would never be enough. No matter how good my imagination was, there was only one of him. With Sonos’ new smart speaker, you don’t need to be happy with the One – you can have two. Two Ones, paired to give you sublime stereo sound. Add a Sub, and turn Alexa into Alexa’s big brother, the one with a room-filling, booming low voice. Or pair with your Sonos Playbar or Playbase for enveloping surround sound.
Like the release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, or the appointment of Claudio Ranieri at Leicester City F.C… this is a genuine game changer! For years Sonos has dominated the multiroom home entertainment market with intuitive, sweet-sounding, beautiful speakers and receivers. Now you can turn your Sonos system into a fully interactive, voice-controlled new best friend, too.
Thank you Sonos. Thank you!
