Product review: Orange box

If you’re looking for a Bluetooth speaker that combines classic design, solid sound, and a rich musical heritage, the Orange Box Medium deserves a spot on your shortlist.

The Orange Box has got charm, warmth, and surprisingly powerful performance packed into a neat, retro-style box. Whether you’re a long-time brand user, into vintage aesthetics, or just want a speaker that sounds great, here’s why the Orange box is the one for you.

Orange Amplification has been around since 1968. Based in London, Orange is best known for its guitar amps, which have been used by some of the biggest names in rock, including Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and Oasis. The company built its reputation on warm, punchy sound and eye-catching design, and both of those qualities are front and centre with the Orange Box.

Their distinctive orange tolex covering and the signature logo have become symbols of rock history. But Orange hasn’t stayed stuck in the past. In recent years, they’ve expanded into home audio, bringing decades of sound experience into the world of Bluetooth speakers and headphones. The Orange Box Medium is a great example of this evolution, classic in style but fully modern in function.

The Orange Box looks like a mini version of one of their famous amps. It’s compact, solid, and wrapped in that iconic orange vinyl finish. There’s also a black version if you prefer something more subtle, but either way, it will make a great centrepiece for your next BBQ. It feels well-made and has a nice heft to it—not too heavy, but not flimsy.

Matching their iconic amplifiers, the front grille has a classic woven texture, and the top-mounted control panel features guitar amp knobs and switches, rather than the flat, touch-sensitive buttons you’ll find on most other brands. This gives it a satisfying, hands-on feel and is reminiscent of using a guitar amplifier. If you want to tweak the sound to your taste, the physical bass and treble knobs let you shape things without any fuss. Want a bit more sparkle? Turn the treble up. Prefer a more laid-back sound? Dial the bass down slightly. It’s all intuitive, but it makes a big difference.

Bring the sunshine into your music listening, with the Orange Box Bluetooth speaker.

Let’s get to the important part: how it sounds. In short, the Orange Box sounds fantastic. For its size, it delivers a full, rounded sound that’s both clear and warm. The bass is surprisingly deep, but not boomy. It gives music a solid foundation without drowning out the midrange or treble.

Vocals come through clearly, and what I loved the most is that the acoustic instruments have a natural, lifelike quality. Whether you’re playing The Eagles, Benson Boone, Chet Baker, or podcasts, it handles everything with confidence. It’s not just loud, it’s balanced. Even at higher volumes, there’s very little distortion, and it keeps that smooth character that Orange is known for.

The Orange Box is refreshingly simple to use. Pairing your phone, tablet, or laptop over Bluetooth is quick and reliable. The device remembered my phone after the first connection, so all I need to do is flick the handy on switch, and it automatically connects. There’s no complicated setup process, no app to download, and no fiddly menus to scroll through. Just power it on, connect your device, and start listening.

It also includes a 3.5mm input, so you can plug in older devices or anything that doesn’t support Bluetooth. This adds a bit of flexibility that’s often missing from other wireless speakers. Battery life is solid, too. You’ll get around 15 hours of playback on a full charge, which is more than enough for a day of music at home, in the garden, or even on the go.

This speaker is ideal for anyone who values both style and sound. It’s not the cheapest speaker out there, but you’re paying for more than just good audio. You’re getting character, heritage, and a product that feels special. It works well in a kitchen, living room, bedroom, or even a small office. It’s not trying to be a smart speaker with voice control or endless features; it’s focused on what’s important. It’s a speaker that not only sounds good but brings a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll history into your everyday life.
