Product Review: LG 28MT49DF TV

Gone are the days when a 19″ TV would be present in every bedroom in the house. Bigger doesn’t always mean better, but that’s not what the TV market seems to think…

Televisions are getting slimmer every year and this in turn creates a thirst for a bigger screen size throughout the house. Here to quench that thirst is the rather adequately sized LG28MT49F. Boasting an impressive 27.5 inch LED screen and slim design, this set is sure to be a winner. It will fit into pretty much any space, giving you that decent sized screen you crave without taking over the entire room. The speakers fit into the design nicely and gives a crisp sound from something so small. Wall mounting it is a breeze with only a standard VESA 100mm x 100mm bracket needed, keeping everything neat and tidy.

Specially designed to get the most from TV, games and movies, the LG 28MT49DF is your three-in-one screen solution.

There is a bit of limited connectivity on this set with one HDMI and one USB input respectively. An extra HDMI input would have been useful, but it’s sole HDMI input supports audio return via ARC, thus enabling you to use just one cable to go into a separate audio system, which keeps everything simple. The USB will play your video, audio and pictures as is pretty standard these days. Despite only having the one HDMI input, I believe that this connection will mainly be used for hooking up a games console.

Boasting an impressive 5,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio, games will come to life and details will not be missed. Input lag seems to be low, so gaming feels responsive and smooth. There’s also a specific gaming mode for this TV just for good measure. If you want to watch something other than your favourite Mario Kart character getting hit moments before the finish line for a devastating loss, simply switch to the inbuilt Freeview tuner and you’re golden. LG could have added a Freeview HD tuner, but at this price it’s hard to grumble.

All in all, this television really does do a lot and given its size and picture quality, should prove to be a hit, especially amongst you gamers out there. It fills a gap in the market and is worth a look, so if you fancy seeing all this TV has to offer, please give your local Richer Sounds a call who will be more than happy to help.
