When it comes to buying a new television in 2017 at first glance it can appear that your choices of brand are limited to the four popular kids, Panasonic, LG, Sony and of course Samsung, and thats generally been the case for the past decade. But looming in the shadows, and often spotted in penthouse apartments in New York, there’s a German company called Loewe…
Famous for offering very high end, beautifully bespoke televisions, Loewe have recently introduced a slightly less bespoke (read: more affordable) but still incredibly high-end range, and I’m here to discuss the Loewe Bild 5 OLED screen, and it’s just beautiful.
First off, let’s address the flawless, hand-crafted elephant in the room.
The Bild 5 is not only an incredible TV; it’s as close to a work of art as any piece of technology can be. With nearly 20 finish and stand options to choose from, those of you looking for a new television that basically doesn’t look like a large black box should give this some serious consideration. With a near invisible bezel, you’re basically staring at nothing but screen, with the exception of the large yet stylish Loewe badge. Depending on your choice of stand, the costs of these sets can rise and fall like a roller coaster. The slightly more subtle “table stand” is still an optional extra, as standard the Bild 5 comes as a wall mounted set fresh from the box. As you can imagine each stand is just as beautiful as the last, with traditional offerings you see on most sets to elaborate and beautiful tripod stands, as well as built in sound bar offerings. It really is hard to find one that wouldn’t fit in any home.
Now, as beautiful as the Bild 5 is, it not just a piece of art: it’s so, so much more. At it’s heart it is an Ultra HD OLED screen, offering those flawless, unbeatable blacks we have grown to love from the likes of LG, Sony and Panasonic, and much like those brands, the Bild 5 starts with an LG panel, and Loewe have squeezed the best they can out of it. On board we find all the usual suspects, the Bild 5 doesn’t cut any corners and is of course HDCP 2.2 compatible as well as HDR 10, Dolby vision, and the yet to arrive HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).
It’s certainly no one trick pony, with a jam-packed smart interface featuring all the necessities, 4 HDMI 2.0 sockets, as well as an optical input and 2 USB inputs, should you wish to introduce a hard drive.
Normally I wouldn’t expect much more from any television, but here’s where Loewe have struck gold: within the impossibly thin chassis of the Bild 5 is a dedicated 1TB hard drive, the answer to all of our prayers. No more dedicated separate boxes, no more extra costs, no more second remote controls. It’s a BRILLIANT feature on this already incredible TV. Loewe as a brand have always come at a high price point, but with some of today’s flagship OLED models coming in at just shy of £3000, that price point suddenly sounds almost normal.
If that sounds like your budget, then the introduction of the Bild 5 fits very firmly in your price bracket, and while I know its not household brand you read about in the magazines every week, don’t forget that at its heart this is an LG panel, if your after that extra touch of class, or you need a second tv for your NYC penthouse… then Loewe should really be on your shopping list.
