Top games for January

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

In life the only real constant that can be relied on is the passage of time, minutes become hours and hours become days, and with no real notice a new year rolls around and the progression begins again. Here are the games that come out in the first month of this New Year.

Please be aware that all five of these trailers may contain content which is not appropriate for children! Onwards…

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard -PC, PS4, PSVR, Xbox One January 24th

Resident Evil as a series has become a boring and bland affair over the last few iterations to the point that a new game didn’t light me up with much joy. Fortunately Resi 7 is taking a step back and focusing more on being an actual scary game focusing on real fear rather than trying to be cool. Changing to a first person perspective and even having VR (Virtual Reality) compatibility could be an effective way to add emersion, but we won’t know until the full release this month.

Hitman: The Complete First Season – PC, PS4, Xbox One January 31st

Hitman released its episodic content over the course of the year to pretty decent reviews being garnered for each episode. This complete edition brings all of those separate episodes plus bonus missions, and you don’t have to wait three months every time you want to play a new mission. The missions themselves are classic Agent 47 with myriad of beautiful locales that become massive toy boxes for you to assassinate your targets in a multitude of different ways.

Yakuza O – PS4 January 24th

The Yakuza series is massive in Japan, but I have never played one. Yakuza O released originally in 2015 in Japan and is only now being shipped to the rest of the world so we can bask in the glory of this open world action-adventure brawler game. It seems like a super weird game but one that could be an exciting blend of genres that lets you beat the hell out of some gangsters.

Rise and Shine – PC, Xbox One January 13th

Rise & Shine is a game that you probably haven’t heard of…yet. Taking the idea of all video games existing in one universe and turning it into a hand drawn bullet hell run and gun shooter that puts an emphasis on thinking instead of all out gunfire is an interesting concept that I’m excited to try out. That’s not much info to go on but all I can say to you is watch the game play trailer and see how you feel afterwards.

Gravity Rush 2 – PS4 January 20th

Gravity Rush is a game that scares me a little, the idea that you could control the very nature of gravity and accidently make yourself float away into nothingness keeps me awake at night, luckily this is a game and so that isn’t a issue. Utilising gravity to make yourself faster, better and stronger is a pretty unique idea for a game and one that looks phenomenal in game play trailers I’ve seen so far. If the game is as exciting as the trailers are intriguing then this could be a top drawer game.

So these are the games that I’ll be playing in January and maybe further into the year if they turn out to be as good as I’m hoping.
