The Minions movie, from Universal Pictures.

The Minions Movie – released 16th November

Thanks to the incredible success of Despicable Me and everybody’s favourite little critters, the Minions have been given their very own movie to frolic in. These loveable little yellow men seem to be unable to hold on to a master to serve as they bounce through various creatures through the ages, desperate to do their bidding. They normally tend to help the most evil creatures as well, including a T-Rex and Napoleon but they finally seem to have their rightful master (before Gru of course) in Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock) after the dynamic trio of Kevin, Stuart and Bob travel into the world to find that one true overlord. Expect plenty of childish and wonderful humour coupled with some excellent CGI that makes this movie a must have in any collection.

Ted 2, released on Universal Pictures.

Ted 2, released from Universal Pictures.

TED 2 – released 23rd November

Following on from the incredible success of Ted, the story of a child’s Christmas present that comes to life, Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy and American Dad) gets ready for the sequel with Ted wanting to have a baby with his new bride Tami-Lynn. There is one problem with their plan however and that is that because Ted is technically a bear and also a plush toy he can’t be classed as a human and won’t be able to either adopt or have one! Cue the Thunder Buddies reuniting and taking on the court system to get Ted his rightful place as a citizen of America and as a real person. Cue hilarity, a lot of curse words and most certainly a few out of line jokes!

Inside Out – released 23rd November

This was the latest offering from the successful Disney Pixar animation team where they take on the roles of all our emotions in our bodies and try to shed some light on how they get along.. We follow young Riley after she has moved to San Francisco and her main emotions (mainly anger, joy, fear, disgust and sadness) try to figure out what to do with themselves in a whole new city, school and life! A clever idea that is well worth watching to see if you have something in common with this everyday heroine.

Ant-Man – released 30th November

I actually reviewed this movie when I saw it in the cinema some months ago and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s quick paced, witty and has some awesome visual effects to boot. Paul Rudd takes on the role he’s been building his acting career to star in and filled with one liners, a cunning grin and a sense of determination only a superhero can envisage goes about stealing a super suit that enables him to shrink to the size of an ant. He uses this power to help battle a super villain who becomes known to many as the Yellow Jacket, a similar piece of technology with the added benefit of laser beams attached. Michael Douglas and the gorgeous Evangeline Lilly also star to make up the team ready to save us all and eventually integrate themselves perfectly into the Marvel Universe.

Maggie, released on Universal.

Maggie – released 23rd November

A rather emotional twist on your usual zombie horror flick and one that has caught my attention for its clever direction and storyline. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in a movie about a man who finds his daughter in a quarantine ward in a hospital after she becomes infected by an unknown viral strain that seems to turn most people into a rather zombie-like flesh eating member of the undead. In a rather moving gesture he takes her back to his own home to live out the rest of her life in peace and under the protection of her father, a decision he may live to regret and face unforeseen consequences.

Southpaw, by Eiv.

Southpaw – released 23rd November

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a Lightweight boxing champion who appears to have it all. Then after a series of unfortunate events he is told he is unable to look after his daughter and begins a personal journey to fight for everything he holds dear. Of course this meant that that skinny clever dude from The Day After Tomorrow had to bulk up a bit and he has done an impressive job of getting himself a lot bigger to take on a role he brings to life brilliantly. Also starring Forest Whittaker and 50 Cent expect a few bits of bad language and a heck of a lot of violent scenes as expected with any boxing movie these days.

That’s plenty of barnstorming entertainment to fill another month, don’t forget to tell us if you think we’ve missed any out in the comments section! Otherwise look forward to December where there’s bound to be a bumper batch of Blu-ray gifts ideas for Christmas!
