Many games came and went in 2015, some fantastic and some merely average. But that was then and this is now, so without further ado let us delve into what games you should be playing in January 2016.
Since its first Lego game many moons ago, Telltale games has consistently pumped out Lego games that allow you to play many well known characters. Lego Marvel Avengers will be no exception, coming after the success of Lego Marvel Superheroes this newest edition promises more of the same but this time following the stories of the Marvel cinematic universe films.
Life is strange: Limited Edition- Due January 22nd for PS4, Xbox One and PC
Life is strange: Limited Edition takes all five parts of the downloadable Life is Strange and combines them together into one retail edition. The episodic time travel puzzle adventure has already garnered good reviews as well as multiple awards and is definitely worth a look if you haven’t already played it.
Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo-Due January 29th for PS4, Xbox One and PC
Whenever a big name gets involved with a game it’s either a reason to rejoice, or a cause for concern. Hopefully having Sébastien Loeb involved with a rally driving game will elevate it as high as Pikes Peak and offer just as much excitement, on first impressions the graphics looks incredible too (a must for all modern driving simulators). Boasting the biggest roster of rally cars at over 50 and having over 300KM of tracks this is a game I’m hoping won’t disappoint.
This War of Mine: The Little Ones – Due January 29th for PS4 and Xbox One
This War of Mine was initially released in 2014 and was inspired by the events of the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. In the game you are tasked with controlling a group of refugees with the main goal being to survive until a ceasefire is reached. The Little Ones not only includes the original PC release but extends upon it by adding new content revolving around war through a child’s eyes. This War of Mine: The Little Ones looks to be a serious take on a serious subject that shouldn’t disappoint – it might just be a contender for this year’s masterpiece.
Honourable Mentions
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention these two games, neither of which have a physical release but are still available to download and enjoy.
The Witness – Due January 26th for PS4 and PC
The Witness is an open world puzzle game with an emphasis on exploration and solving puzzles with open ended thinking. This is Jonathan Blows second game (the first being Braid) and is hopefully going to live up to all the hype it has generated since its announcement in 2009.
Gone Home – Due January 12th for PS4 and Xbox One
Gone Home was originally released on PC in 2013 and offered players an interactive narrative rather than a game which told the story of a girl coming home to a deserted house. With no set goals the console version should offer an interesting freeplay experience game for console gamers. The beautiful artwork alone is certainly enough to make it worth whiling away a weekend of gaming.
