Product review: Toshiba 24SW763B Star Wars Special Edition TV

A small TV is a perfect gift because a) it’s easy to wrap and b) it’s also a TV. Imagine then if you will, a present that was not only easy to wrap and a TV, but was also adorned with Star wars Iconography the likes of which you’ve never seen? Well friend you can stop imagining, because Toshiba has delivered the 24SW763B.

So of course before we jump into what the TV can do let’s talk about its major selling point and that’s the cool Star Wars-themed design. Coming with a thick white bezel emblazoned with recognisable Star Wars iconography like X-wing fighter planes, it’s a nostalgia-filled unit that emotes the most from Jedis and Sith Lords alike. As well as this, when turning on the TV you’re greeted to a full screen Star Wars logo to get you into the mood. And when turning the TV off you’ll hear the famous hum of a lightsaber, while an image of a First Order Storm Trooper fades away into nothingness. All round, it’s a pretty good set when it comes to aesthetic elements.

Now let’s talk about what the TV can do. Straight out of the box it comes with Wi-Fi built in, meaning you can use the web browser to surf to your heart’s content while also utilising the same bandwidth to use apps like Netflix and YouTube so you can binge watch episodes of that hit TV show or watch as many videos of puppies as you could ever imagine. Those aren’t the only apps you can use though, as this comes with the ground breaking Freeview Play built in as well, so you can watch the big four apps (BBC iPlayer, All 4, ITV player and Demand 5) without needing to do anything other than click on their icons. As well as the Wi-Fi, it also comes with an Ethernet connection just in case you want to hardwire it.

Speaking of connections, this Toshiba comes with as many as a FA-5 valet droid, offering you two HDMI inputs for any games consoles you may have and even a SCART socket just in case you have something a little bit older you still want to use (like a Play Station 2 running the original Star Wars Battlefront 2!). It also has a USB socket with recording functionality for anything that you’ll be viewing using the Freeview input to receive multiple channels.

This TV is out now and with the next Star Wars film looming on the horizon, this is a perfect gift for a Star Wars fan or if you’re looking for something to add to your own Star Wars collection and can’t quite figure out how to sneak a 9ft Chewbacca into your living room!
