Product reviews: RHA S500U Headphones

Looking for a low-cost upgrade to the freebie earbuds that came with your last smartphone? RHA might have just the answer you’re looking for. Read on to find out more…

RHA have a wide catalogue of headphones ranging vastly in price but this is the first time we’ve had some of their better value sets in store. The S500U headphones are wired with an in-line microphone to control calls and your music.

In the box is a 1.35 metre long fabric cable as well as seven extra sets of ear buds. These vary in size and shape, so finding a set to fit your ears won’t be a problem. RHA are immensely proud of the fact that aluminium has been used on these headphone as the 3.5mm jack and ear casings are all made of exactly that. I must say when you first pick them up the build quality feels like that of a set of headphones that could easily cost at least twice the price. Off to a very good start here.

So let’s get Spotify up and see whether or not the lightweight RHA S500U can really banish your standard headphones to a drawer that won’t see the light of day until you move home.

The S500U come with a wide variety of tips to fit every ear perfectly

Well it’s an unequivocal “yes” from me. These RHA headphones are honestly a bit of a steal at the price they come in at. The micro dynamic drivers come into play and produce a sound that is sweet and engaging. The bass is surprisingly upbeat from such a lightweight design and there seems little to criticise on that front. Obviously if you want a bit more bass then a more expensive and heavier headphone may give you what you’re craving but, and I keep coming back to it, at this price I can’t find a fault. The vocals may get a little squeamish if you’re listening to something really high pitched but overall they produce a really good solid sound.

These are a worthy upgrade over your standard headphones so why not check them out at your local Richer Sounds store today?
