Speakers can look so boring. Never fear, Libratone to the rescue!
Today I’m having a look at the new Libratone that RS are stocking. To be honest, I have never heard of this brand before but doing after doing a little research I find out they’re a Scandinavian company, founded in 2009 which are all about innovation and wireless. Their idea is to create product that disperse sound like an instrument rather than a generic speaker. Here goes.
At first glance, the box and packaging definitely has a premium feel. Both speakers come with 3 different covers in the box, made out of high quality Italian wool. Straight away these products are oozing quality and style. This for me is more than a fashion statement though; it’s actually practical! Many people want a strange colour, but after a month or two actually decide that bright yellow isn’t what they wanted for their e.g. new age contemporary room. With Libratone that’s no problem. Simply change the cover. As an optional extra you can buy up to 8 different colours. And for as little as £39, it’s a lot cheaper than buying a new one.
I haven’t even listened to this product and already I’m loving it. There is nothing better knowing care and passion has been put into a product, rather than it being just another speaker. Here’s my quick roundup of the features:
- The Zipp[link] – Portable and compact. It’s the same height as a Pringles tin, but sounds a lot better. It can last up to 4 hours on its battery using wireless, and up to 8 wired. So if you plan on taking it on a day out, consider using a cable to eke out as much battery life as possible.
- The Loop[link] – If you want a speaker that doesn’t look anything like a speaker but sounds great…then good morning, beautiful; this is for you. Wall mounted it simply looks like a light or piece of decor. And having it close to the wall actually gave it a bit more punch due to the bass port.
But unfortunately, the looks and sound are slightly overshadowed. Why? The setup!
They couldn’t have made it easier. Plug in you iPhone, click the “PlayDirect” button until a message comes up on the phone and click Allow. Job. Done. This is the same for their entire range. So Granny and Uncle Fred that keep saying it’s too complicated for them, think again. My microwave is more complicated and would take longer to cook some beans (Heinz of course) than it took me to set this up.
All in all these are two fantastic speakers. No good if you’re not an Apple kind of guy, and dare I say, there are plenty of Bluetooth speakers out there for you. If you have Apple, this product is a no brainer. Now I’m off down the beach with my Zipp for an ice-cream. The question is, red, blue or black?
