The Atmos revolution has been in swing for a short while now, enhancing the way we listen to our films and music in the home. Keen to get on board as early as possible, Onkyo’s latest amplifiers come fully equipped and offer a range of speakers to complement them. Wanting to make things as easy as possible for first time buyers, they’ve paired the two together in a fantastic package system. Genius!
With it just arriving in our stores, we take a look at the HTS5805 and the first impressions are good, it’s looking to be a great way to bring brilliant 360 sound to your living room.

Supplied with five speakers and a subwoofer, the system is technically a 5.1.2 setup, with the upward firing drive units given their own channels for reproducing this new effect. The speakers are fairly large for a satellite design, but all of this is in the interests of reproducing the best possible sound quality. For those who simply can’t use the ceiling speaker setup that is generally recommended for this type of system, these clever boxes are a huge plus.
AV receivers have always been were Onkyo has excelled. Right off the bat this amplifier is capable of outputting 85 WPC into 8 ohms, so there’s certainly plenty of power on tap. Four HDMI inputs are featured, as well as one output, which is more than enough connections for most setups. Even better news is that all of these HDMI sockets are the latest ‘2.0a’ specification and HDCP 2.2 compatible, meaning that Ultra HD streaming is a breeze, especially matched with a 4K Blu-ray player (expect this market to flourish early next year).
Bluetooth is also featured, as well as a whole host of other wireless streaming options, which makes this system ideal for enjoying your favourite music straight from your smartphone or Bluetooth enabled portable device. So you could argue that it’ll be something of an all-round central entertainment hub for your home once you’ve installed it.
