Product Review: Samsung 49M6300 TV

As 4K UHD becomes more and more dominant in the world of television the humble 1080p screen gets less and less common. But what if all you want is a solid Full HD Smart TV that has a great image and is also curved…well then behold the Samsung 49M6300, the answer to all your needs.

As I said before, 4K UHD is the more dominant screen style when you pick up a TV, but when it comes to what you’ll actually be watching there’s a lot more content that’s filmed in Full HD and more content still that’s in SD. This isn’t to say that a 4K UHD screen can’t handle HD and SD footage but they do place a higher importance on upscaling images to match the output of the TV, this can mean that certain older programs with lower resolution can get overblown and oversaturated from the upscaling process. So if you want to watch your older shows without having to mess with the settings then a Full HD could be the way for you.

Image wise, the M6300 is a fantastic beast, taking all the colours and contrast that you’d expect to see from a Samsung TV, utilising Micro Dimming pro to give you that and also improve the brightness and sharpness. On top of that it also enhances images via Ultra clean view, meaning even old blurry footage can end up looking better through this screen. My favourite aspect of the image for this screen though is its black uniformity, because when you watch a dark scene or are bombarded with night time vistas then it has absolutely no problem with portraying them with no gradient of black missing.

For me the major reason for picking this screen is if you’re looking for a solid gaming screen for console or PC, but mainly for console. I say this because the screen has a phenomenally low input lag running at a great 19.5ms when set up to its optimum performance, this is good enough for anyone who wants to play games either solo or on the competitive spectrum.  As well as this the motion blur of the screen is very low running at a maximum of 18.7ms when changing 100% from one colour to another, this isn’t perfect but for a TV that isn’t top of the range it’s pretty exciting. Like I said at the beginning though this is much better for console gaming than PC as the narrower viewing angles mean that the screen can darken at the edges if seated too close…as you would be if this were used as a monitor.

Smart wise it’s your standard Samsung affair giving you everything you’d want in a smooth interface that takes seconds to get to grips with. Utilising Tizen, you have all the apps at your fingertips and getting features such as Netflix or Amazon Video can be done in mere seconds. Samsungs system is possibly one of the best when it comes to ease of use.

Connection wise you’re looking at 3 HDMI in, 2 USB in, 1 Digital optical out, 1 Component/Composite in (shared adaptor), 1 Aerial in and 1 Ethernet in. Unfortunately this year there is no headphone output but there is a Bluetooth out that can be utilised with any Bluetooth headphones you may have or be thinking about getting.

So all in all for me I think that if you’re looking for a solid Full HD TV and you’re primarily going to be playing games through it then this could be the TV for you.
