No Man’s Sky turned heads at E3 2014, with a reveal that was not only breathtaking but proved that you don’t need to come from a big studio to be a big game. With its procedurally generated open universe and an emphasis on exploration, this epic will give players the ability to explore the entire solar system and the stars, making new discoveries and sharing experiences with the rest of the gaming community.

Batman: Arkham Knight is developer Rocksteady’s swan song in the trilogy of Arkham games. Set in a time where Batman has reached the peak of his abilities, he has his eyes on the villain Scarecrow who has left the city starved of its citizens thanks to a toxic plan. Arkham Knight promises the same gritty style and substance of previous releases, while adding the eagerly awaited Batmobile! Expect a little less subtlety in the explosive and eponymous Arkham Knight.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

For many people The Witcher series is the pinnacle of story driven role playing action games, and this final act in the series promises the same rich narrative based action. However with what seems to be a running theme this year, the hugely popular open world has been introduced. Featuring the new REDengine 3, a game engine specifically designed for non-linear role-playing games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should be a sword and sorcery game of incredibly vast and magical scale.

Mortal Kombat X is set to offer frantic and explosive multi-player fighting action.

So expect a more in depth fighting game that requires strategic thinking and not just button-bashing!

These are just a few of the biggest games to keep us excited about this year but look out for other popular titles like; Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Street Fighter 5, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege and Halo 5 to name just a few. With so many trilogies coming to an end and the introduction of a few next-gen first releases, 2015 is definitely the year to pick up the latest console.
