Most anticipated films of 2016 – Part Two

film2

Welcome back to part two of our top picks for films in 2016. I have already admitted that I am a bit of an action-flick fiend and the trend shows no signs of slowing as this year already looks set to be a who’s who of the super-hero and super-villain world!

li3Ya9Ru_400x400’10 Cloverfield Lane’
–  Due March 11th from Paramount Pictures

The trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane (please note it’s not suitable for kids!) literally came out of nowhere but the film is finished and ready for a March release. A direct relative to the original Cloverfield film, it remains to be seen if this will be about the aftermath of the first (which did receive mixed reviews) or will it stay away and become a great film, within its own right. Either way the cast is strong, and the premise certainly peaks our interest!

–  Due April 29th from Walt Disney Studios

The latest film in the ever growing Marvel Cinematic universe takes the titular hero and has him facing off against team mate Iron Man. Obviously there’s more to the film based around the comic series ‘Civil War’, which itself used the idea of freedom vs security as it narrative backdrop – there might be hidden depths yet beyond the Disney routine. Apparently starring more Marvel characters than any previous Marvel film, Civil War hopes to be innovative whilst still staying true to the source material. Check out the explosive trailer for a taste.

maxresdefault-2‘X-men: Apocalypse’
– Due 27th May from 20th Century Fox

There have been a lot of X-men movies since the original 16 years ago, some good like ‘Days of Future Past’ and some bad like ‘The Last Stand’. Focusing on this latest endeavour, the supposed original Mutant X-Men Apocalypse looks to carry on from days of future past by creating a film that fans can really enjoy.

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’
– Due December 16th from Walt Disney Studios

Star Wars is back! After the frankly amazing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we can now look forward to new Star Wars films pretty much every year – thank you Disney! Rogue One is the first of the spin off films and tells the story of how the rebels managed to get the plans for the original Death Star. Definitely one to see if you’re an existing fan or if you or your kids have only just discovered your love for it.

deltabar‘Star Trek Beyond’
– Due July 22nd from Paramount Pictures

Star Trek is one of the biggest Sci-Fi franchises in history, so it’s no surprise that a third film was green lit for the most recent incarnation. With the two previous films being as good as they were it shouldn’t be surprising if the third is at least as good or better. Featuring a story of star ship explosions and escapes from unknown locales Star Trek Beyond takes us further into deeper space where no man has ever gone before.

maxresdefault‘Independence Day: Resurgence’
– Due May 22nd from 20th Century Fox

The original Independence Day is an icon of the 90’s, this can only be read as a fact. It may not have been the most well written film but man was it explosive, star-studded and outright crazy. Following up from the original almost 20 years after aliens first attempted to invade Earth, it tells the story of the day when the aliens return for vengeance which also happens to be Independence Day again. Jeff Goldblum reprises his role as does Bill Pullman for this long awaited sequel.

Well that concludes my top picks for upcoming releases this year, as you can already see it’s going to be epic for action-flick fans! If you think I’ve missed any please feel free to share in the comments section just below.
