Richer Unsigned: Artist of the week – Max Pope

Richer Unsigned is here for one reason and one reason only: to share with you the best new talents in music.

This week’s Artist of the Week is Max Pope, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Brighton, who is also one of Spotify’s Spotlight Artists of 2016.

The single ‘Less than nothing’ from his EP of the same name is a pleasant and heart-warming track, despite essentially being about spending all day doing nothing – although for some people this can be the epitome of pleasure, myself included! Pope’s is a sound that encourages me to close my eyes and simply listen without distractions.

It’s incredibly well produced, with gorgeous layers of background vocals that blend beautifully with the rich and dreamy sound of the guitar. The chorus of ‘Today I have achieved less than nothing / more than yesterday, I guess that’s something‘ runs on a continual loop in my head, lasting long after the song has finished. It’s is a wonderful taste of what Pope is clearly capable of, a groove that leaves me wanting to sample all of his work.
